Film OpenStreetMap & Via Alpina
Hi! We are a group of hikers from 4 countries (among us some members of Alpine clubs). During Summer 2012, we contributed to the OpenStreetMap project (a free-and-libre map) in quite a particular fashion: We will hike in the Western Alps for about 80 days
, from Monaco (departure in 7 June 2012), up to Switzerland, and back to the South (ending around mid-August).
We followed the blue and rail trails of the Via Alpina, a network of five long-distance hiking trails across the alpine regions with 342 stages and over 5000km between 0 to 3000m above sea level. We did this in order to collect GPS tracks, take geotagged pictures and insert the data into the OpenStreetMap database in order to produce a detailed map of the trails.
